Good News and Bad News

The good news is I'm now a featured cartoon columnist at a wonderful online magazine, In The Fray. This would never have happened without Molly Hennessy-Fiske, an amazing journalist and just all-around cool woman who invited me to ITF's recent NYC benefit party. Molly has just returned from a Pew Fellowship in International Journalism in Mexico (and yes, she has a blog.) Not only did she reconnect me with the folks at In the Fray, she was my first editor back when I was a Harvard freshman learning to write articles for Diversity & Distinction magazine.

The bad news is--I was really ill last night, so no new cartoon this week (this is the disadvantage of a weekly publication schedule... I was hoping to do something about the economy, or the genocide in the Sudan, or the three-year-old terror warnings, or the environment or... well, you get the idea).

Bush's Bizarre Argument Against Revoking Tax Cuts for Rich

See the Capital column in today's Wall Street Journal, which has a great policy analysis of the following priceless argument from Bush:

Campaigning last weekend, President Bush offered this attack on opponent John Kerry: "He said he's only going to raise the tax on the so-called rich," the president said in Canton, Ohio. "But you know how the rich is: They've got accountants. That means you pay. That means your small business pays. It means the farmers and ranchers pay."

Really, I'm not joking. There's plenty of them out there. And while I can see how many GLBT voters could be disappointed by Kerry's sometimes underwhelming support on certain issues (see previous cartoon), I have a really hard time sympathizing with any who still support Bush... Kerry supports antidiscrimination laws, he's against don't ask, don't tell, he's against the antigay federal constitutional amendment, he's for civil unions and he uses the word gay in a positive way. Bush thinks gay people are a threat to the foundation of society. That's a pretty clear difference.
