New Toon: Sgt. Dobson's Boot Camp with Rudy and Mitt!
Giuliani is currently polling way ahead of Romney and McCain. But word is that he doesn't stand a chance with religious right voters due to his adultery, serial marriages/divorces and pro-choice/pro-gay views and history. Romney even claims Rudy is pro marriage equality, but there's no evidence for that. And Rudy's recently been emphasizing that he only believes in marriage between "a man and a woman".
I have a long history of both despising Mitt Romney and drawing cartoons about him--I started out as a cartoonist for the Boston Phoenix when Mitt was just a slimy gubernatorial candidate. I watched him get progressively more anti-gay and anti-choice and it saddens me to think he has even a chance at the White House. I think he's polling third, but he's now the most anti-choice, anti-gay candidate running.
As for Giuliani, I'm no fan.
P.S.Welcome to readers from Cagle.com!
P.P.S.I'm still going to do a cartoon about anti-transgender workplace discrimination, but it'll be for next week, folks.
P.P.P.S. I wish I had the time this week to do something extra about the Walter Reed hospital mess and problems in the VA system. My grandmother Melba was a disabled Korean war veteran, and it was something she was deeply passionate about. I did this 2003 cartoon back when she received a letter from the VA asking to give back part of her meager benefits check.

Mikhaela,
Congrats on being on cagle.com!
Are you replacing Chuck Asay, who was on that site? He recently retired from drawing editorial cartoons after 28 years.
I'm not replacing Chuck at all--Daryl has a special section for alt-weekly cartoonists!
And Chuck didn't retire in the traditional way--his job was cut, sending him into early retirement, yet another example of a staff cartoonist position gone permanently vacant.
I just saw that Cagle added you onto his site. He also mentioned that about 30 people canceled their subscription to his newsletter because of your cartoons.
On both accounts, I say Congrats! Keep up the controversial and great work. You're stuff is definitely unique.
It's so funny, I never think of myself as even vaguely controversial, but that's because I'm used to a more specialized audience.
So happy to have found you via Cagle. nice to see more women on the site. I gotta say the world of editorial humor can only benefit from a more diverse perspective.
unrelatedly....
is it cool to post your comics on my blog from time to time with links and citations and stuff? what is the etiquite for all that?
Hi Jay,
Thanks for visiting and thanks so much for asking permission to post the cartoons! There's an easy way you can post my cartoons (and many other cool cartoons) in your blog without violating copyright--my cartoons also appear at:
http://editorialcartoonists.com/cartoon/browse.cfm/ReidM/
The site has a cool feature that lets you create thumbnail images to link to your favorite editorial cartoons in your blog. Just select "click here to link to this cartoon" and it'll give you the code to create a thumbnail with a link. Or you create a thumbnail-sized version yourself and link to my site for the full-sized version.
regards,
Mikhaela
Wow, Mikhaela's debut on Cagle.com is controversial. I hope this won't make suffer Daryl and Mikhaela's cartooning career.
And I just want to make a correction regarding Asay. Chuck will continue to draw for syndication (via Creators Synd.).
Hi Charles,
Eh, controversy can be good! I actually received about 95% wonderful positive "keep at it, girl" emails, and only 5% "I pray for your sick liberal diseased soul you stupid bitch" emails.
And yes, Chuck is still syndicated. But that's small peas compared to the staff position with benefits and salary that he lost.
-Mikhaela
"I pray for your sick liberal diseased soul you stupid bitch"
I wonder if god answers prayers like, "god bless mommy and daddy and my dog scooter and that sick liberal diseased stupid bitch"
Poor Mikhaela.
