Prop 8, the musical
In case you haven't seen this yet. With Margaret Cho, Maya Rudolph, Neal Patrick Harris, and more!
Of course, the silly idea that LGBT rights should be fought for because they're good for the economy is pretty F-ed up (justice is justice and rights are rights), but I don't think it's meant seriously here.

I love this video, apart from the aforementioned "money as motivation for justice" part. I'm not quite as sure as you are that it's not to be taken seriously. Funnyordie is a for-profit operation, and I tend to be suspicious of them and their motives (and those of John C. Reily) after having seen the "Green Team" video, which tries to make a joke out of rape.
The economic argument is a necessary part of seeking social justice, because it creates a basis for discussing mutual interest. It may be a little cynical - and certainly from a principled point-of-view, one's basic rights should trump everything else - but it has a pragmatic purpose. Esp. when dealing with religiously-blinded opposition.
The economic argument is an sad and pathetic excuse to avoid the discussion in the actual facts. IT IS OUR LIVES. You and your church has absolutely nothing to do with it and we have done nothing WRONG to have rights revoked. This argument about economics of gay people is nothing but prejudice used to "favor" us in short-term issues although disfavoring us in a long term since we are only good while we have money.
Vicente, I really agree with you. When LGBT rights are predicated on financial power or the lack thereof, what happens to low-income groups of LGBT folks--like homeless transgender teenagers? Do they not deserve rights/protection because they have no financial leverage?
