Sick Kitty
Ronnie and Riley, in healthier times.
So Masheka and I found out today that our little orange kitty Riley (named for the Boondocks character) is very ill and most likely has an incurable fatal disease called feline infectious peritonitis. We brought him in to the vet because he's lost a shocking amount of weight (poor baby now weighs less than 5 pounds, probably about half what he weighed in that photo taken less than a year ago). He's only 5 years old. I cannot even express how much this sucks. He's always been a runt and asthmatic and sickly (he nearly died of a nasty respiratory infection the first month after I adopted him) but also always very sweet and affectionate and playful and social and very fond of chewing through or scratching up or puking on or otherwise destroying absolutely everything in the apartment.
Anyway, we're just going to keep him comfortable but he doesn't really want to do much but sleep these days. Unfortunately, Ronnie (gray kitty) doesn't understand why Riley doesn't want to run around and chase things, and he keeps batting at him ("play with me! play with me!") in puzzlement.
In his more active times, Riley was the inspiration for the cartoon "Bush vs. My Cat." Seriously though, no matter how ridiculous that cat is, he definitely would have made a better president than Dubya!
This SUCKS.

I wish the best for your kitty. D: I'd be devastated if something happened to my kitty, and can only imagine what you're going through.
My thoughts to your kitty.
I have three cats whom I adore deeply. I would be crushed if anything happens to them (one of them lost a leg in a accident 3 months ago).
My best wishes.
Oof. Mikhaela, I know I've disagreed with you a lot in the past, but I really hope you can find comfort in this time of pain and grief.
I am so sorry to hear it. I remember meeting your sweet kitties after mocca last year when I came over one evening with Barry Deutsch. I'd forgotten the cats' names, but coincidentally, my 2-week-old daughter is also named Riley.
Best wishes to you and your little furballs of joy.
Wow, what a tough couple of months this has been for you! First the wrists, then the foot, now your heart.
I just lost a kitty and it truly does suck. My heart goes out to you. Give yourself lots of time to spend with them, and trust yourself to make good choices to keep them happy and comfortable.
Hugs from Jen in California.
So very sorry, Mikhaela. Cats can become family so easily, before you even know it. One of the worst things about reading this for me is that two friends of mine lost their cat last year, who was named after the very same character.
My sympathies to you, Masheka, and Ronnie.
I'm sorry, Mikhaela. I hope his last days are as happy and peaceful and painless as possible.

I'm so sorry.
I had two kitties grey and ginger just like yours. Tragically my gray one passed away just a week or so ago of exactly the same thing. It is such a painful thing to see your friend wither away, lose weight, energy, and to be visiting vets constantly and them not being able to just fix it. If only there were really a magic pill for that, and for everything else while we are at it.
I really hope that you and Ronnie get to hang out with Riley for as long as he is comfortable, and that your home will continue to be filled with joy + love.
Oh heavens. That's very hard.
Thanks so much for all the kind words everyone--it means a lot to us!!!
