NOT that I think much of the watered-down health care reform that Obama is pushing for (you know I'm a single-payer woman), but hell, it's better than what we got!

Amen. When the Right raves about "choice," it's helpful to remember what they mean by "right to work": not the right to have a decent job at a decent wage, but the right to take what an employer offers or go pound sand.

Or end up in a van down by the river. Single payer would be best but I'll go for the Obama plan over nothing or business as usual for the Insurance companies
I'm an expat US citizen living in Australia. Since 1996, I've had single-payer universal health coverage. If I need treatment, I show up at my GP's office, plunk down my Medicare (yep, Aus uses the same name as the US single-payer health program) card, get done what I need to and off down the road I go.
I can't help but laugh my head off at wingnuts who somehow think Medicare for all is a bad thing. If there's any 'death panels' in US healthcare, they're already in existence at the monstrous private health insurance & HMO companies.
My last experience with healthcare in the US was when I showed up at an ER for treatment after being rear-ended by a cop car. The hospital wanted my insurance info or a credit card before they wanted to know what was wrong with me.
The Democrats have a bully majority in Congress. If Obama doesn't push for single-payer universal coverage for all Americans, he should never again be able to sleep at night.
